Privacy

Pata Karao is a business directory, so most of what you add is meant to be seen by other businesses. This page explains exactly what is public, what isn't, and what we do with it.

What we collect

  • Your email address and password, handled by our sign-in service, if you create an account with email.
  • Your WhatsApp number, if you log in with it or verify it on your profile.
  • The business details you choose to add: business name, contact person, phone and WhatsApp numbers, website, city, address, description, logo and photos, products, production stages and services.
  • What you post: listings and their photos or files, replies, and ratings.
  • The searches you save as alerts, and how often you want to hear about them.
  • Claim requests: the company email, message and any proof document you send when claiming a profile.
  • If you message our WhatsApp number: your name and number as WhatsApp shows them, your message and any photos, so the team can post your request for you. We delete them if you ask.
  • An email address for notifications, if you give one in Notification settings.
  • Issue reports: what you tell us, any screenshots, and the email or number you leave so we can reply.
  • The words people type into search and how many results they found, with nothing about who searched them, so the homepage can show popular searches and we can see what people look for and can't find.
  • How often each business profile is viewed and its WhatsApp, Call and Website buttons are tapped, with nothing about who did it. A business can see its own numbers on its profile.
  • How pages are used, through Microsoft Clarity: where people click and scroll, and recordings of visits with anything typed into a form hidden. We use this to find what is hard to use and fix it.

What other people can see

  • Your business profile, including the contact details you add, is public so other businesses can reach you.
  • The WhatsApp number you sign in with is only shown on your profile and listings if you choose to show it, when you first sign in or later on Edit profile.
  • If the team posts a request for you from a WhatsApp message, it shows the name and number you messaged from, so businesses can reach you.
  • Listings, replies and ratings are public and show your business name.
  • Your account email address is not shown on the site.
  • Your saved alerts, claim requests and proof documents are only seen by you and the Pata Karao team.

Jobs

  • If you look for a job: your CV (photo, name, city and area, trades, experience, expected pay, education, work history, skills, languages and any CV file you add) and the jobs you apply for. We never ask for your CNIC, date of birth, full home address or references.
  • Your CV and applications are only seen by you, the companies you apply to, and the Pata Karao team. A company you apply to sees your name, your WhatsApp number and your CV, including a CV you add after applying.
  • Companies can keep their own notes on the people who apply. Only that company and the Pata Karao team see them.
  • Job page views are counted with nothing about who viewed them.
  • To verify a company, we look it up in the SIMAP members directory or on its website, and email a code to an address listed there. Documents a company sends for verification are only seen by the Pata Karao team, and we delete them 3 months after the decision.
  • You can change or delete your CV at any time on My CV.

WhatsApp messages

  • We send one-time codes to your WhatsApp number when you log in or verify it. If you turn them on, we also send notifications about replies and requests that match your business (in Notification settings), and alerts about new listings (on an alert).
  • When someone claims a business with a code, the code goes to the WhatsApp number shown on that business's listing.
  • These messages are sent through Meta's WhatsApp Business service. You can turn them off in Notification settings and on My alerts at any time.

Cookies

  • We use a cookie to keep you signed in.
  • Microsoft Clarity sets its own cookies to tell one visit from the next. Microsoft's privacy statement at privacy.microsoft.com explains how it handles that data.
  • We don't use advertising cookies.

How we use your information

  • To run the directory: showing your profile and listings, sending you notifications about replies, claims and your alerts, and keeping the site free of spam and abuse.
  • New listings, reviews and replies are checked against simple spam rules. Anything that looks like spam, or that several members report, is hidden until the Pata Karao team looks at it.
  • Uploaded photos and files are stored with Cloudflare.
  • We don't sell your information or share it with advertisers.

Changing or removing your information

  • You can edit your profile, delete your listings and delete your alerts at any time from your account.
  • To have your account and business profile removed completely, write to us at [email protected] or through the Contact us page.
